Jan Byrkjeland | Senior Partner & Head of Consulting

Jan joined Rystad Energy in 2004 and is one of the senior partners for our consulting practice. He has played a major part in developing the firm from a start-up to a leading management consulting house specializing on upstream oil and gas and oil service. Jan has 20 years of experience in corporate strategy, macro analysis, market studies, deal screening, and transaction support for E&Ps, oil service and technology companies, and investors. Jan shows expertise in corporate finance, individual asset and portfolio valuation, and business development trends on the NCS and globally. Prior to joining Rystad Energy, Jan worked as Investment Manager at Northzone Ventures, a leading Nordic Venture Capital Company, where he led several investment transactions and took active part in portfolio follow-up through board memberships. Earlier in his career, Jan worked as an R&D Manager at ABB. Jan holds an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and an MBA from INSEAD in France.

Jarand Rystad | Managing Partner

Jarand founded Rystad Energy in 2004 and is managing the firm. Jarand has extensive experience in oil and gas strategy work through his long career at McKinsey & Company and in recent years at Rystad Energy. He has led a number of major strategy processes for international oil and gas companies, and he has also worked together with governments, investors, and oilfield service companies. His areas of expertise include exploration strategies, concession policies, asset transactions, corporate M&A, macro analysis, upstream technology, and gas infrastructure. Jarand has also worked for Kvaerner Engineering and as a research scientist in Industrial Economics, gaining wide expertise in statistics and programming. Jarand holds an M.Sc. degree in Physics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where he majored with a thesis on astroseismology. He also has an academic background in philosophy. Jarand has been the leader and founder of various organizations.

Anders Hannevik | Senior Partner

Anders joined Rystad Energy in 2012 with 20 years of experience in the oil and gas business, specifically in subsea technologies, field development, commercial negotiations, business development, M&A, strategy and government relations. Anders started his career as a subsea engineer working for Kvaerner and later joined Fortum Petroleum, where he was Head of Business Development in Norway and then took on a manager role for Fortum's E&P business in the UK. After heading the oil and gas division at PWC Consulting in 2001, he became Head of Business Development at Chevron Norge with responsibilities in acquisitions, farm-ins and strategy work. In 2007 he moved to Sudan, contracted by the Norwegian Government, to advise the government on how to improve the governance of the oil industry. Between 2010 and 2012 he facilitated the negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan on how to share the oil resources following the secession of South Sudan.

Erik Holm Reiso | Partner

Erik joined Rystad Energy as a consultant in 2007. Prior to joining, he engaged in work experience with Arkwright and Accenture. Since then, Erik has participated in and led projects on exploration strategy, global M&A screening and field/company valuation for E&P companies as well as detailed market forecasting, acquisition candidate screening, and strategy development for oil service companies. Based on his consulting project work, Erik identified the need for a comprehensive global oil service database and has since led the development of DCube. Due to successful DCube and project work, Erik has become one of the company’s top oil service strategy consultants. He holds an M.Sc. in Industrial Economics and Technology Management from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology with specialization in finance and real option valuation.

Lars Eirik Nicolaisen| Partner

Lars Eirik has been with Rystad Energy since 2008. His areas of experience include rig supply and demand analysis, well technologies and exploration performance analysis. He has been key speaker at conferences on a variety of topics spanning from rig market analysis and investment forecasts for Norway to oil service opportunities in Northern Norway. Lars Eirik was also a member of the Rystad Energy winning team at the ONS’ “Young Professional Company Award“ in 2010. In addition, Lars Eirik has been a core member of the team behind the NCS Business Development Atlas.

Per Magnus Nysveen | Senior Partner & Head of Data Analysis

Per Magnus joined Rystad Energy in 2004 and is leading the analysis team. He has particular expertise as an upstream portfolio and transaction advisor as well as wide experience with financial and fiscal regimes globally. He is also responsible for valuation analysis of unconventional activities and is in charge of the North American Shale Analysis. Per Magnus has developed comprehensive models for production profile estimations and financial modeling for oil and gas fields. He has 20 years of experience within risk management and financial analysis, primarily from DNV. In addition, he was responsible for risk assessment of the European Space Program, residing eight years in France and three years in South America. At DNV, Per Magnus had a pivotal role in various projects assessing offshore project risks and petroleum portfolios. He holds an M.Sc. degree from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and an MBA from INSEAD in France.

Erik Wold | Senior Partner, COO & Head of Technology

Erik joined Rystad Energy in 2006 with 20 years of experience from scientific and technological research and development in materials science, ICT, data analysis, and sensor development. With 10 years experience at SINTEF as Senior Scientist and Research Director, Erik hast contributed to the development of new and industrially-leading tools and products and has assisted client companies in developing and fulfilling their technology and product development strategies. Erik is now in charge of the technology development at Rystad Energy. He has participated and led a number of consulting projects, of which the majority have been technology-related or modeling intensive. Examples are market forecasts for existing and new products and services, due diligence, market and aftermarket strategies, and entry strategies. Projects also include system deliveries based on Rystad Energy's proprietary technology platform. Erik holds an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Physics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

Jan G. Norstrøm | VP Technology

Jan G. joined Rystad Energy in 2007. He has broad experience in risk analysis, uncertainty modeling and decision theory, holding a Ph.D. from TU-Delft, Netherlands, and M.Sc. from NTNU, Norway. His focus is on exploration, yet-to-find and advanced mathematical models for UCube. He has five years of experience working with upstream database development and as a consultant. His specialty is strategic market forecast used in company valuations. Before joining Rystad Energy, he worked with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace within project planning, contract negotiations, product development, industrialization, manufacturing and aftermarket.

Nils-Henrik Bjurstrøm | Senior Project Manager

Nils-Henrik holds an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from NTNU, Norway, and an Executive MBA in Strategic Management from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). He previously worked at Roxar Software Solutions as a manager of software products within petroleum geology, geophysics and reservoir engineering. Nils-Henrik’s field of experience include strategic product management, business development, general management within software development, project management and software engineering.

Harris Utne | Project Manager

Harris holds an M.Sc. in Engineering/Physics from NTNU, Norway, and École Polytechnique, France, and he has completed studies in Social Sciences and in Economics. He previously worked at SINTEF Micro- and Nanotechnology and had an internship in R&D geophysics at Total in France.
