"What To Expect In North American Shale In 2016" by Per Magnus Nysveen, Senior Partner & Head of Analysis, and Leslie Wei, Analyst (Published by Oil & Gas Financial Journal, Nov 1) Since the last update, the forecasted 2015 North American shale spending and production levels have remained unchanged at 95 billion USD and 15 million boe/d, respectively. This represents a 45% decrease in spending, and 13% increase in production compared to 2014. As the 2015 values are largely known, this quarterly shale update will focus on the expected 2016 trends. "The challenge of converting discoveries into production" by Espen Erlingsen, VP Analysis (Published by GEOExPro, Oct 1) A key challenge for the E&P industry over the next years will be to mature the discoveries made during the last five years, and converting them into commercial fields. The two regions with the largest exploration success over the last decade are South America and Africa. The subsalt discoveries in Brazil and the gas discoveries in offshore Mozambique and Tanzania were the key drivers for this success. At the time of discovery, these discoveries were commercial and expected to generate high activity and production growth in the medium term. Read more
"A new dawn with offshore project resurrection" An intense focus on cost cutting among E&P companies resulted in several development projects being put on hold in late 2014 and into this summer. Cost optimization and a reduction of prices in the service industry have led to several projects turning economical even in the current low oil price environment, and being resurrected. Rystad Energy observes offshore projects to come in at an average of 10-30% lower costs than before the oil price crash. Read more
