"Shale activity expansion comes at cost of accelerated base decline in the U.S. Land"
Significant expansion of shale activity in the Permian Basin and other U.S. Liquid plays comes at the cost of accelerated base decline. Base decline shows how quickly oil production falls in the first month if no new completions are turned-in-line. In pre-unconventional oil era (2006-2009), U.S. Land oil base decline was observed at 50-60 thousand bpd. As of 2H 2018, U.S. Land needs to add more than 500 thousand bpd of new oil monthly just to keep production flat. U.S. oil production exhibits all-time high YoY growth of 1.6 million bpd as of June 2018, but acceleration in base decline will eventually lead to the decay in the pace of production additions. Material increase in shale investments is needed in 2019 to maintain YoY growth above 1 million bpd through the end of 2019.

"Rebound in spending keeps offshore ahead of shale"
A recent surge in final investment decisions (FIDs) on offshore oil and gas projects has set the scene for a healthy increase in offshore investments next year, thus preventing the shale industry from overtaking offshore for the first time, according to Rystad Energy’s latest analysis. This is due to a 50% year-on-year rise in the number of offshore projects that were sanctioned in 2017, with 62 FIDs, followed by similar growth this year with close to 100 offshore projects to be sanctioned. With that we will finally see offshore investment levels rise again in 2019, after four straight years of contraction.

"Chinese threat of imposing a 25% tariff on US LNG could cause a setback for non-sanctioned US projects"
Rystad Energy observes that China’s LNG demand was as at 38 million tons (Mt) in 2017, marking a 45% increase from 2016 at 26 Mt. This jump was mainly driven by increased demand in the power and residential sector as the country pursues an aggressive plan to switch from coal to gas. This trend is expected to continue, due in large part to the government policies guiding the energy mix and because domestic production and new pipelines are insufficient to meet demand. We forecast Chinese LNG demand to reach about 90 Mt by 2025.

"U.S. shale on track to deliver 1.5 million bbl/d oil growth in 2018
Tight oil production in the United States has been growing steadily over the past years, and the volumes from horizontal wells are projected to reach over 8 million bbl/d by the end of next year. This article examines the fundamental drivers behind this growth: well performance improvements and breakeven price trends, focusing on the top U.S. oil plays.

"US oil production seeks new heights
The latest EIA-914 survey and Petroleum Supply Monthly (PSM) were released at the end of August, confirming our expectation of strong oil production additions from Texas in June 2018. According to the EIA, Texas oil production jumped by 165,000 bpd for the month and along with strong post-outage recovery from the Gulf of Mexico, this addition pushed total US oil production to a new record level of 10.68 million bpd.

"Is Pemex better off spending money on developing fields it has already discovered?"

"Vietnam’s large-scale solar pipeline at 20 GW
Government incentives introduced in Vietnam in 2017 have successfully attracted 20 GW of large-scale solar developments in the pipeline. For perspective, this is half the size of the country’s installed power generation capacity. However, delivering this pipeline will be challenging.
