Key NCS Takeaways May 2017


  • Neptune Energy and ENGIE has entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire ENGIE’s 70% share in ENGIE’s upstream activity excluding 30% in the Algerian Touat development for USD 3.9 billion. Gjøa, Njord area, Snøhvit and Gudrun are important NCS assets involved in the transaction with expected close Q1 2018
  • DNO has acquired Origo Exploration and returns to the NCS and UKCS. The company has communicated additional inorganic growth ambitions


  • Lundin announced a dry appraisal well on its Gohta discovery. Resources are likely to be downgraded
  • NPD has mapped the resource potential in the Northern Barents Sea which resulted in an additional 8.8 billion boe estimate of undiscovered resources, a doubling of the current estimate

Field Developments

  • Centrica operated Oda was approved for development as the last of five development plans submitted in 2016
  • Statoil’s Albiorix discovery from March 2017 has been renamed Sindre and approved for development. Resources will be extracted via a well drilled from Gullfaks C and a new business unit has been created for unitization purposes
  • Troll Brent B has also been approved for development by drilling a multi-lateral well from the O-template connected to Troll C
