Haynesville Shale on track to surpass historical gas production record from 2011

We have previously discussed outstanding resurgence of gas production in Louisiana driven by revival of Haynesville Shale development in 2017. Haynesville Shale alone was able to add 1.85 billion cfpd of gross gas production between 4Q16 and 4Q17. The growth pace slowed down last year, but we still saw 1.3 billion cfpd addition year-over-year as of 4Q18.

As shown on the chart production needs to increase by another 700 million cfpd in order to renew historical peak output seen in 2011. Back in 2011, more than 90% of output was coming from short laterals (less than 5,000 feet), while laterals longer than 7,000 feet were literally inexistent. Over the last two years, we have seen significant number of modern 2-mile more productive completions. As of 4Q18, 50% of Haynesville Shale gas production comes from laterals of 7,000 feet and longer.
