Unlocking renewable energy investment in Ukraine: Pro bono work by Rystad Energy Advisory
The Ukraine Business Advisory Council (BAC), supported by the G7+, worked with Rystad Energy Advisory to help address one of Ukraine’s urgent energy needs. Renewable developers face major barriers including grid instability, limited credible offtakers, currency risks and high upfront capital costs, which makes it difficult to secure financing and establish bankable PPAs in the current environment.
Rystad Energy Advisory worked pro bono with the BAC to design a PPA guarantee fund that reduces risk for renewable PPAs and helps mobilize international capital. The recommended structure, supported by donor funding and aligned with key Ukrainian industry associations, contributed to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s implementation effort. Once in place, the mechanism is expected to unlock up to €1.5 billion in renewable energy investment. Learn more about how Rystad Energy and the BAC advanced this solution in our latest case study.
