Debrief at the summit

Supply chain

Short, expert led debriefs for suppliers and procurement teams on OCTG costs, digital energy services and strategic sourcing in power markets.

Debrief at the summits / Supply Chain

The energy supply chain is under pressure to deliver more with less. Geopolitics influences costs, new technologies change how services are delivered and utilities and developers rely on smarter procurement to manage risk. This Supply Chain Debrief page highlights key talks from the Rystad Energy Americas Summit and EMEA Summit. The videos focus on oilfield services cost drivers, digitalization in energy services and how European utilities use strategic procurement to manage power market transitions.

Strategic procurement and power market transitions

External speaker Axel Wietfeld explains how strategic procurement supports the energy transition in European power markets. He highlights why early involvement of key suppliers and the use of AI in procurement are vital for meeting future power generation needs and managing project risk.

The conversation examines the interplay between gas fired capacity, hydrogen ready turbines, carbon capture projects and renewables, and how regulatory and political decisions influence costs and investment choices. Axel shows how digital procurement and strong supplier relationships can help utilities like Uniper secure capacity, control risk and deliver on decarbonization objectives at scale.

Value creation and digitalization in energy services

Binny Bagga discusses how value creation in the energy services supply chain has evolved from the 2010s to today. She describes the shift from a focus on scale and technology to a landscape where digitalization, automation and ESG performance are the key levers of long term competitiveness.

The video looks at how different sectors, including solar manufacturing and hydrogen, face overcapacity, cost pressure and volatile margins. Binny explains why digital tools are the one common factor that can improve efficiency, transparency and profitability across service segments and how supply chain strategies can adapt to a more data driven energy market.

How geopolitical events impact contracting costs

Thomas Jacob explains why oil country tubular goods (OCTG) are at the center of the current cost conversation for US shale operators. He describes the impact of Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs and notes that OCTG can represent around 10 to 15 percent of total well AFE, which makes price moves particularly sensitive.

The discussion covers the tug of war between domestic mills that try to pass through higher costs and exploration and production companies that face a softer market. Thomas also outlines the quiet downturn dynamic in US shale, with lower rig counts, fewer frac fleets and operators focusing on inventory quality. He concludes with an outlook where well costs are likely to plateau into 2026 and stresses the need for buyers and suppliers to plan for selective inflation in tubulars in an otherwise stable cost environment.
